2014 was groundbreaking for CHORUS, a year in which we met or exceeded all of our milestones. Member publishers are now routinely and systematically identifying content with CrossRef’s FundRef tags, adding license information and making content publicly available on their platforms. CHORUS has an agreement in place with Portico for long-term preservation and expects a similar arrangement with CLOCKSS in the coming months.
2014 also marked the start of CHORUS’ transition to a membership model, signing on American Chemical Society, American Institute of Physics Publishing, American Physical Society, American Society of Plant Biologists, Association of Computing Machinery, Elsevier, Hindawi, Silverchair, The Optical Society, The Royal Society, and Wiley as members. CHORUS ushered in 2015 with two additional new members; a warm welcome to the IEEE and IOP Publishing!
Next Steps
CHORUS is committed to advancing collaboration, sparking innovation, and broadening the dialogue among publishers, funders, policy makers, and opinion leaders, to support public access in a way that is beneficial to all. Rhetoric aside, what is CHORUS working on? Here’s an example:
Data: As access to research data has become an increasingly important issue in the scholarly community, it has become clear that CHORUS can help to make it a reality. As a result, we’ve started to explore connections to data repositories and collaborate with a wide array of innovative, cooperative data initiatives. Executive Director Howard Ratner is involved with the CrossRef–DataCite Pilot and the RDA-WDS Publishing Data Services Working Group, and is talking with the RMap Project, Dataverse, Dryad and Figshare. We’ll report on this work in future updates.
